Canon Pixma MP990 Driver Download– The Canon PIXMA MP990 of Canon is the most expensive all-in-one in the range of the company and has all the bells and whistles of the others, plus some. It is designed for home use and is also aimed at photo enthusiasts, especially those interested in black and white photography.

It is a large, silver and black machine, relieved by the fact you can leave it closed when not in use and by a 150 sheet of the paper cassette, which slides underneath it, so the rear tray, also the 150-sheet only needs to be unlocked when you print the photo or special paper. Like some other PIXMA models, this one can print on the Blank CD and DVD coated properly, using a separate disc mount, which slots behind the flip-down cover inside the machine.

A small panel hinging on the scanner cover reveals the machine’s control panel and also a large 93mm LCD display. The controls include a Canon click Wheel, which is used to navigate most menus, and a large, clear button for other functions.

The scanner itself is standard A4, a glass flatbed without an automatic document feeder. Inside the scanner cover, though, is a removable panel that reveals transparency and negative holders, which can be put on a flatbed for high-resolution scans of photographic media.

The cover is rather thin, set to the right, the front edge of the curved machine reveals three memory card slots, for CompactFlash, SD and MemoryStick, and xD cards. There is also a PictBridge socket, which doubles to read the USB drive.

On the back of the machine are sockets for USB and Ethernet, but PIXMA MP990 also offers wireless networks. Wi-Fi Setup is quite simple, although entering a WEP passcode with just a click-wheel is rather rambling.

Canon provides a great software bundle to restore the engine and includes a copy of the ArcSoft PhotoStudio Photo Editor, as well as regular packages. There are drivers for Windows and Mac included on a separate CD.

The PIXMA MP990 uses a six-ink printing machine, but instead of adding Cyan light and Magenta light, it adds black ink and gray photos to the standard CMYK set. All six cartridges click into the print head in standard Canon mode and each one has a red LED indicator to indicate it is properly seated and blinking when the ink is low.

Canon considers PIXMA MP990 to be able to print 11.9 ISO pages in one-minute and 9.1 color pages. We don’t see enough of this pace, although we’re getting closer to them than it often does. Our 5-page print text returns 6.98 ppm, which rises to 9.30 ppm for a 20-page test. 5-page text and graphical tests give 5.45 ppm.

This speed is reasonable for inkjet, although there is a fair level of variation because the number of fiddling about the printer is not before and during printing. At one photo print, the machine took 45s before starting to print. In the second run, this preparation time was much shorter, and we saw this kind of distinction on several other print tests as well.

When it comes to print duplex, things are a little ash… Literally. The printer appears to use the black ink dye-based photo in a pigmented black place used for single-sided text printing. This may be because dye inks are faster to dry than pigmented and Canon can reduce the lag between printing the first and second sides of each page.

However, dye-based inks are not as dense as pigmented, so the text appears to disconnect ash compared to the simplex page. The color print head is also shallower than black, so it takes a lot more bait to print the page, which means printing is slower. As well as the lag between sides, this slower print increases the print time to 7:04 for our 20-sided, 10-page test, delivering 2.83 side-by-minute speeds, which are slow.

The prints of the photo, something of the specialty of this machine, came through quickly, with a 15 x 10cm test we took about 30 seconds, regardless of the source.

The print quality is generally good, overrides the greyness of the duplex page. The black text on the page is solid simplex and is generally well-formed, with only occasional ink bleeding from pigmented inks. The color of the graphics is bright and smooth, with no sign of appeal and very few clear patterns of color either.

Photo Pictures remain among the best we have ever seen from a five or six-ink engine. The transition colors are subtle, the tones are natural and there is plenty of detail in the dark as well as the brighter areas of the image. We scored some black and white photos and a mid-range color was a definite improvement over the printers that relied on black ink alone. Grey neutrality is good across the entire range and without going into an eight or nine-color machine, it’s probably the best you’ll see.

There are extra grey cartridges that factor in the cost of running color for these machines that drive up to the cost per page color. We calculate the cost of the Black page 3.18 p and the color page costs 9.27 p, both including 0.7 p for paper.

The cost of black pages is pretty much on par with those inkjets which are not great at cheap black prints – Kodak and Lexmark are those that do. The color costs about one cent per page are higher than some Canon competitors.
